Essential 8 Assessment
Understand your cyber security gaps and plan your next steps. IT Networks provides ACSC Essential Eight assessments for businesses in Melbourne and Perth, with clear findings, evidence-based reporting and practical recommendations to strengthen your IT environment.

Looking for an Essential Eight assessment for your business? Whether a customer has requested assurance, you are reviewing existing controls or you want to prioritise security improvements, IT Networks helps you establish where you stand and what needs attention.
An ACSC Essential Eight assessment reviews how your systems and security practices meet the requirements of the Essential Eight maturity model. Also called an Essential 8 assessment or gap analysis, it gives your management and IT teams a documented basis for decisions about risk, resources and remediation.
We agree the assessment scope and reporting requirements with you before work begins. Our Melbourne and Perth teams can work with your internal IT staff or existing provider to gather evidence and explain the findings in business terms.
Get a useful assessment of your current controls and a clear path forward. Your agreed scope defines the systems, target maturity level, evidence and deliverables covered by the engagement.
Identify the systems, users and service providers in scope. Confirm your assessment objective, available evidence and any customer or contractual reporting requirements.
Review the implementation of all eight strategies using documentation, discussions and technical evidence. Identify gaps between the assessed environment and your agreed target maturity level.
Receive findings that explain the evidence, maturity outcomes, limitations and areas requiring attention. Give decision-makers a clear view of what is working and what needs improvement.
Translate the findings into practical next steps. Discuss remediation priorities, dependencies and responsibilities, with implementation and reassessment support available as a separately agreed scope.
The Essential Eight strategies work together to reduce common cyber risks. We review the applicable requirements across the agreed assessment boundary.
ASD has published guidance on transitioning from Essential Eight to ASD Essentials for enterprise IT. If your customer or contract still specifies Essential Eight, bring those requirements to the scoping discussion. We can help you clarify the required assessment and discuss how existing evidence may support future transition planning.

Practical business advice. Focus on actions your organisation can plan, budget for and assign to the right people.
Support after the report. Connect assessment findings with managed cybersecurity, disaster recovery and staff awareness training where relevant.

Discuss your objectives, confirm the assessment boundary and target maturity, and agree access, evidence handling and timing.
Examine documents and system configurations, consult your IT team and validate relevant controls using agreed assessment methods.

We run a busy clinic in Melbourne and have been using IT Networks' managed cybersecurity services for some time now. The experience has been exceptional. Their team is incredibly hands-on and responsive — always quick to address any issues or provide guidance when needed. What impressed us most is the value: their service is just as thorough and reliable as what you'd expect from a major provider, but at a much more reasonable cost. Highly recommend IT Networks to any business looking for dependable cybersecurity support without the hefty price tag.Posted on Google![]()

Our business engaged IT Networks initially to conduct a Cyber-security Audit. From the first meeting, I was extremely impressed by the attention to detail, focus on understanding the business IT set up and also on our ways of working. This resulted in an excellent outcome, improving our internal IT security. We went on to engage IT Networks as a managed service partner. Through our ongoing engagement, they are adding real value to our business and great support both during business hours and also outside of business hours when needed. Great team, great to work with!Posted on Google![]()

Boutique 3rd party provider for all you IT needs. I have entrusted our business IT needs to IT Networks for nearly 30 years now. They provide pro-active support on a monthly basis avoiding breakdown and failures. I've found this works well on-going rather than wait for problems to occur and then fix. Easily contactable, any problems that may arise are dealt with promptly. They manage domain names, fibre connections and all the various software subscriptions. I would recommend the team at IT Networks.Posted on Google![]()

We have used IT Networks for years in our workplace and have always found the team good to work with and looked after our requirements.
It is a review of the implementation and effectiveness of controls against the Essential Eight maturity model. The assessment uses evidence to identify maturity outcomes and gaps within a defined scope, giving your organisation a basis for planning improvements.
Yes. IT Networks has offices in Bundoora, Melbourne, and Burswood, Perth. Contact your local team to discuss your assessment scope, evidence requirements and suitable delivery arrangements.
The Essential Eight model includes Maturity Levels Zero, One, Two and Three. Level Zero indicates that Level One requirements have not been met. The higher target levels address increasingly capable threats. We agree the relevant target and reporting requirements during scoping; the assessment considers all eight strategies together.
Cost and timing depend on the number and complexity of systems, assessment boundary, target maturity and availability of evidence. We confirm these details with you before providing a proposal. Request an assessment quote for your business.
Useful starting points include an asset list, relevant policies, previous assessment reports and details of who manages your systems. We will agree the evidence, stakeholder access and technical review arrangements needed for your specific scope.
No. This service provides an assessment report and recommendations, not an ASD or ACSC certification. Penetration testing has a different purpose: it explores exploitable weaknesses through authorised testing. An Essential Eight assessment reviews a defined set of mitigation requirements and does not replace broader risk or compliance reviews.
ASD has evolved Essential Eight into ASD Essentials for enterprise IT. Existing Essential Eight controls and evidence can help with transition planning, but maturity ratings do not automatically convert to the new framework. Organisations should continue meeting any applicable requirements that still specify Essential Eight. We clarify the framework and reporting expectations with you before agreeing the assessment.
Yes. We can discuss an implementation plan with your team and provide separately scoped remediation support. Follow-up assessment can then check whether agreed improvements have addressed the identified gaps.
