The Problem: Security challenges in the Banking Industry

More and more people join credit unions each year, largely due to the fact that credit unions are run by their members and provide excellent customer service. Victorian Teachers’ Credit Union - a leading Victorian-based credit union approached IT Networks, and two other companies, to provide independent evaluations of their network and make appropriate recommendations.

The company’s need was to ensure that the network was secure was largely driven by the rapid growth in Internet banking, as well as various internal and external requirements.

The Solution:

IT Networks submission was recommended to the Board and ultimately selected, as it recognised the need to enhance security between both external, internal and third-party business partners, as well as recognising that any changes to network infrastructure needed to allow for future expansion, without re-working the current design.

IT Networks was engaged to implement the recommendations, while ensuring that the current banking infrastructure was not effected by any significant downtime.

High-quality hardware was chosen by IT Networks to provide the necessary infrastructure for securing the credit unions network. The implementation includes firewall products and routers to ensure that the network is firewalled and secured correctly.

The Result:

A secure network was installed, without significant disruption to business activity. IT Networks has now formed a direct alliance with the credit union to provide on-going technical support and real-time network monitoring.

What the client says:

"We see IT Networks as a VTCU technology partner. They provide ongoing support and management of our WAN network. They play a critical role in ensuring that our system and network remain secure. They understand our business and how to adopt related technologies in our environment, ensuring that unauthorised persons do not compromise our members’ information and transaction data. They work with management to develop strategies. They are reactive in support issues that arise and proactive in planning for the future.

We first used IT Networks on an ad-hoc basis. We have now formalised the arrangement and we are very happy with the service, as well as the fact that it is provided at a reasonable cost. We are an organisation of 150-200 staff. We are not small, but we’re not big and we have found that working with IT companies that are larger than IT Networks, you just become a small fish in a big ocean.
